Day 10

Buenos Dias!

Today is another GORGEOUS DAY! We have not had rain since Friday night…I am keeping my fingers crossed that the weather continues to stay beautiful!

My classes were really good today. In one of them we learned how to describe people physically and played the game “Guess Who”. I am really learning so much about teaching English through my experiences here. Watching my teachers teach me Spanish as a second language is so fascinating. It reinforces for me good teaching methodologies!
I am going to use way more graphic organizers next year too!

Here are some pictures of what my life is like daily. Often, Martha’s grandchild and his friend Daniel come over and play at her house. The other day she bought Marquito a new soccer ball. He asked me to play with him and Daniel, and then a few minutes later my housemate Mathew came out to play. Our team name was the “Chivas” and the other team “los americanos”. The Chivas were doing okay, but as soon as our neighbor Blake came over, I was kicked off the team ☺ Oh well!

The next photo is of a group of my friends from don Quijote at one of our favorite restaurants “Truco 7”. The food is really good at this place and very cheap. The other night I ordered steak for the equivalent of $4.70. My friends from the picture from left to right are: Sebastian (Quebec), Matthew (Belgium), Yo, Claire (Michigan), Laurel (Austin, TX), Mary (Dallas, TX) and Matthew (Wisconson). The last Matthew in the picture is my housemate mentioned before. The two guys to the left of me both speak FRENCH as their native language!! Everyone is super nice here! I have made many friends already…such an answered prayer!

More to come soon!

Love,

Katie

hey katie!
i'm so glad you're still doing well! and that you have lots of sunshine and trunco siete in your belly. mmmm....
it was such a treat to get to see you in gto! i'm so glad we were all in the same city.
dont worry if you feel like your spanish is slow. i bet you are learning so much more than you realize. my first night back at work, i had a patient who's mom spoke no english -- and it made me feel so good about what i'd learned -- every little bit helps.
take care,
Susan
